First Alert Day: Rain, snow, and a wintry mix on Tuesday AM

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – ALERT DAY: The First Alert Day will remain in effect for the Tuesday morning commute. Rain, snow, and ice will be possible through the commute in the morning. Slushy roads are likely in areas north of Highway 14.
Winter Weather Advisory(KTTC)
The National Weather Service has issued “Winter Weather Advisories” for areas north of Highway 14. This does include Wabasha and Goodhue Counties. Areas in purple will have the “best” chance of snow accumulations on Tuesday morning.
Rain and snow timeline(KTTC)
Precipitation will start as rain after 9-10 p.m. for all of SE MN and NE IA. Temperatures will cool to around 32-33 degrees by 4 to 5 a.m. Rain will quickly transition to snow and a wintry mix for locations north of Highway 14.
There will be a small band of precipitation that will fall as mainly snow. This small band could produce snowfall amounts of around 1-2″. Most accumulations will happen on grassy and elevated surfaces.
Snowfall forecast(KTTC)
Right now, it appears that the narrow band of snow will set up in the counties under the Winter Weather Advisory. Wabasha and Goodhue Counties could see up to 2″ of snow.
Other locations will mainly see rain with a rain/snow mix in the morning. Total snowfall amounts should stay less than 1″.
It’s not a ton of snow, but slushy and slick roads will be possible. Be safe Tuesday morning!
10-day forecast(KTTC)
High temperatures on Tuesday will be in the upper 30s, with lows in the low 30s Tuesday night.
High temperatures throughout the week will be near seasonal averages in the low 40s.
