Rainy days, cooler temps on the way to Phoenix area

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Our weather team has issued First Alert Weather Days for Tuesday and Wednesday with an active weather week ahead.

Our next weather system will push through the region overnight, bringing a chance of showers tonight through Tuesday and Wednesday. Much cooler temperatures will accompany this area of low pressure as it drops down the coast of California. Across the Valley, we could see half an inch to an inch, especially in any thunderstorms that develop.

Temperature-wise, expect highs around 71 degrees on Tuesday, then down to the mid-60s through the end of the week. This system should move out of the area by Wednesday evening. For the high country, snow is likely with this system.

Expect mostly rain above 8,000 feet through Tuesday evening, then transitioning to snow overnight Tuesday through Wednesday night as snow levels fall. Snow levels are expected to drop to around 6,500-7,000 feet by Wednesday and could even reach 6,000 feet.

As far as snowfall totals, we could see 1-2″ above 6,500 feet. Areas like the White Mountains and San Francisco Peaks could have 3-8″ of snow. A Flood Watch is in effect this evening through Wednesday morning for northwestern Arizona, including areas like Lake Havasu and Kingman. Pockets of heavy rain could create flooding concerns. Another storm system is possible next weekend, but uncertainty remains high. We’ll keep you posted.
