When the super guarantee began in 1992, it was introduced with a TV commercial. Its star was Bob, whose boss Betty plants some money in a pot on his desk, then waters it as it grows into a thriving money tree over his working life, so Bob has more to live on than just the pension when he retires.
Today, many of Bob’s generation are now racing rapidly towards retirement over the next decade. Most of them have super grown over much of their working lives, and it will transform their retirements. But as Bob leaves the office for the last time, the ad ends, and we lose track of his path to retirement.
