Manchester United could have been given a transfer boost in their rumoured interest in signing Wolves ace Joao Gomes. Recent reports suggest that the Red Devils are keen on signing Gomes in the January transfer window.

Some rumours have even gone so far as to suggest that a £44million deal could bring the Brazilian to Old Trafford in the New Year.

Gomes has previously been linked with a move to United, with rumours intensifying as the January window approaches.

United are reportedly in the market for a new midfielder, with several names being thrown into the mix, including Carlos Baleba of Brighton & Hove Albion and Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest.

Given the ongoing speculation, United may be tempted to enter the running to sign Gomes give his price tag is reportedly less than half the price of other rumoured targets

Gomes also comes highly recommended by United star and his Brazilian compatriot Matheus Cunha, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Cunha, who swapped Wolves for United last summer, has played alongside Gomes at Molineux.

The 26-year-old revealed in an interview in July 2024 why he sees similarities between Gomes and United star Casemiro, who has become his teammate at both club and international level.

The United No. 10 also hinted at why Gomes would be a welcome addition to Amorim’s squad, describing the midfielder as ‘humble’.

“Maybe Casemiro,” Cunha said last year when asked which players reminds him of Gomes. “He is a bit older now, but I put Casemiro’s name there only to show where Joao Gomes could arrive.

“I think Joao has the possibility to arrive. He is very humble, and he works a lot. The good teams come like a gift when you do that.”

“He is unbelievable on the pitch,” Cunha added. “I feel very secure. I feel like I can lose the ball when I have my midfielders behind me. He played very well for the national team, too.”

Casemiro has already won two major trophies during his time with United with triumphs in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. Not to mention, the 33-year-old was part of a Real Madrid team that won three La Liga titles as well as five Champions League trophies.

United will be hoping, if they were to sign Gomes in the New Year, that the midfielder goes on to meet the hype that has been given to the Wolves star in the past.
