Ireland striker Troy Parrott is hot property now after scoring blitz for Boys in Green

AZ Alkmaar may not be able to keep Troy Parrott on their books much longer if the Dubliner continues his brilliant form in front of goal, says Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson.

Parrott came of age on the international stage with two goals to beat Portugal last Thursday night and then he netted a hat-trick (the first by a Republic of Ireland player away from home) in Budapest on Sunday. Before his international heroics, the former Spurs striker had been banging in the goals for AZ in Holland’s Eredivisie.

He has 18 goals for club and country so far this season.

“He was the top scorer in Europe when he got injured in September,” said Hallgrimsson.

“Just imagine if he wouldn’t have gotten injured where he would be now.

“I think he is enjoying being at AZ and that’s a good club, they are taking really good care of him. Long may this continue but I don’t think they can keep him there for long if he keeps on doing this.”

The Parrott story is all the more remarkable because he might well not have started the last two games had Evan Ferguson been fit.

“Against Portugal he would have started,” said Hallgrimsson.

“I don’t know about this game, he would have come in at least.”
