Finding out you’re pregnant can be a surprise for many, but for Claire Danes, her third pregnancy came with a feeling of shame.
The 46-year-old actress opened up about finding out she was pregnant with her third child a couple of years ago and the internalised stigma she felt when it happened.
“I was so old when that happened. I was 44,” Danes said on a recent episode of the SmartLess podcast while speaking to hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett.

Danes was talking about finding out she was pregnant, something she “didn’t think was possible” at that age.
She admitted she was “terrified” but it was all OK in the end.
Bateman, 56, commented that the pregnancy was a “blessing” and while Danes agreed, she admitted she felt a lot of conflicting emotions at the time.

“Well, it was actually really interesting because I did not foresee this at all. And it was weird. Suddenly I felt, like, a funny shame,” she explained.
“I was naughty. I had been caught fornicating past the point I was meant to.
“No, it was weird, and it was like I found an edge that I hadn’t been quite conscious of.”
Danes and her husband, Hugh Dancy, are also parents to Cyrus, who will turn 13 in December, Rowan, seven, and their third child, a daughter whose name they have not revealed publicly, is two.
Elsewhere in the interview she added that their daughter “loves a tutu”.
People confirmed Danes and Darcy had welcomed their third child together in 2023, although they have since kept many of the details about her private.
The couple met in 2007 on the set of Evening, but in an interview years later Danes admitted she wasn’t quick to start a serious relationship with him.
“I was very recently single, and I had never been single before, so we were just friends for a while,” she told Marie Claire in 2017.

“[Hugh and I] met in Rhode Island when it was at its most audaciously beautiful, in the fall.
“There was one day when we were bicycling by the water and it was sparkly and idyllic, and I just had this dumb epiphany, like, ‘I’m really just happy.'”
