Alan Carr breaks silence on replacing Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman on Strictly

Following his standout appearance on Celebrity Traitors, Alan Carr has emerged as a frontrunner to replace Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman when they leave Strictly Come Dancing at the end of this year’s series. The iconic duo have co-hosted the programme together since 2014, but recently announced this series will be their last as both are ready to hand the baton over to new presenters.
There are several contenders rumoured to be in line to replace Tess, 56, and Claudia, 53, including Zoe Ball, Rylan Clark, Holly Willoughby, Alex Jones and Bradley Walsh. Several fans are hoping that Alan, 49, will be the one who lands the prestigious gig after the comedian won over the hearts of the nation during his stint on Celebrity Traitors, arguably becoming one of the show’s most iconic Traitors to date.
Alan has now confirmed whether he would be open to the role, telling Radio Times: “Apparently my name is in the hat, which is an honour, but I haven’t spoken to anyone at the BBC.
“You saw how sweaty I was in the castle, imagine me live on a Saturday night coming down those stairs – people would slip in a pool of my sweat while doing the fandango.
“It’s lovely to be thought of, but it’s probably a bit too nerve-racking.”
Although he hasn’t been directly approached for the role, the TV presenter revealed plenty of job offers have been coming his way following his success on Celebrity Traitors.
“No one has approached me. People are so passionate about it and you saw me sweating in the castle when I was a Traitor, imagine me doing live telly with how many million people watching.
“So many things have come from The Celebrity Traitors – so many job offers coming in – I’d be flattered, but I don’t know if I could do it [Strictly] justice. I just don’t want to ruin it for people,” he told The Mirror.
Tess and Claudia will make their final appearance on Strictly during the festive special on Christmas Day.
In their joint exit statement, Tess and Claudia said they would always leave together. However, it turns out their pact may not have been as mutual as it looked, as an insider claimed it was “total nonsense”.
A source exclusively told Express.co.uk: “There’s genuine confusion and disbelief. People completely understand why Claudia might go — she’s got huge projects away from Strictly and her career’s flying. But Tess? That’s a whole different story.
“The idea that they had some pact to leave together is being laughed off — nobody believes it.”
