We’ve got a big night of football ahead of us, but it isn’t just qualifying for the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia that’s at stake. This is Hong Kong v Singapore, after all, where regional bragging rights come into everything from Lady Gaga to airports.
When Hong Kong qualified for the 2024 edition of the tournament, it was their first appearance since 1968. Singapore, meanwhile, have not got there since 1984. This is huge for both cities, and plenty of Singaporeans have made the trip to see if their side can make history.
A sell-out crowd awaits at Kai Tak Stadium – which became a story in itself when tickets were snapped up in little more than an hour.
Tonight’s equation is simple: win and you’re in. Victory for either side spells heartbreak for their opponents. Expect an evening of rising tension, questionable decision-making and tears one way or the other.
It’s football night in Hong Kong, so stick with us for live coverage of the city’s biggest game in years.
