If your social media feeds have been flooded with talk of stimulus checks, you’re not alone. Despite a wave of viral posts and cleverly edited videos claiming new federal payments are on the way, none of these checks are real yet.

No IRS office, no congressional committee, no federal agency has confirmed a new stimulus program.

While President Donald Trump recently announced plans to issue a $2,000 tariff dividend check starting mid-2026, that plan is still just that: a proposal that must pass through Congress first.

Here’s everything you need to know about the proposed $2,000 stimulus check.

When are we getting $2,000 stimulus check?

Trump indicated checks would arrive mid-2026 while speaking with reporters at the White House.

Who gets the $2,000 stimulus check?

Trump’s Truth Social post indicated the $2,000 per person checks would be sent to Americans “not including high-income people!”

Trump provided no more information on what he meant by “high-income people.”

However, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said they would go to “working-class families.”

Is the $2000 stimulus approved?

No, the proposed $2,000 stimulus payment has not been approved yet. It still needs to go through Congress to pass legislation and move forward.
