Following almost a year of speculation, Bethany Weaver has been confirmed as playing Dorothy in the forthcoming Wicked: For Good movie.
Weaver is a UK-based choreographer and actress. She choreographed the London musical play Asmahan at the Peacock Theatre, and featured in the ensemble of Rumi the Musical and Broken Wings the Musical in 2018.
Weaver has kept the role secret for months, though an appearance in Wicked and Wicked: For Good (with role stated as “tba”) has been listed on her Spotlight page since the start of the year. WhatsOnStage was first made aware of Weaver’s role in the film earlier this year.
The confirmation of her appearance comes following months of fevered speculation and searching, with aspiring social media sleuths linking many names to the role without merit.
According to interviews with cast and crew, the extent of Dorothy’s appearance in the film is comparable to the stage show – a minor part and only appearing briefly and in a non-verbal role.
Wicked: For Good is set to sail into UK cinemas on 21 November 2025, almost exactly a year after part one.
Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey and more all return, while famous numbers from act two include “For Good”, “As Long As You’re Mine” and “No Good Deed.”
Based on the hit novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, Wicked and Wicked: For Good tells the story of two unlikely university friends in the land of Oz, one destined to become Glinda the Good and the other, the Wicked Witch of the West. Wicked writers Winnie Holzman (book) and Schwartz (score) are collaborating with Dana Fox on the screenplay.
