Optus fined after consumers’ bank accounts raided by scammers

Optus is in trouble again for lax security procedures after an investigation by the telecommunications regulator found it had failed to comply with anti-scam rules, resulting in some consumers having their bank accounts plundered.
The disaster-prone telco, which is still recovering from the fatal Triple Zero outage in September, was found to have allowed scammers to fraudulently port phone numbers of 44 Australians onto Coles Mobile accounts, which it operates.
