Celtic hero Kieran Tierney helps launch superb new SFA initiative

As it’s international week, Celtic fans see their heroes busy with their respective national sides.
And whilst there is a lot happening on the pitch for the Celtic players away with their countries, there is also plenty happening off it for Celtic hero Kieran Tierney.
Tierney is on the brink of World Cup qualification with Scotland but off the park, the Celtic defender helped launch a brilliant new initiative for the national association.
The SFA launched the ‘Extra Time’ programme and Celtic hero Kieran Tierney was on hand to help out.

Tierney was at the press call for the initiative alongside Scotland teammates Andy Robertson and John Souttar.
As per the SFA website, Extra Time is ‘a joint initiative between the Scottish Government and the Scottish FA that provides funding for over 50 local football clubs and trusts to provide free access to before school, after school and holiday clubs for targeted primary school children from families on low incomes.’
🗣️ “The pilot that was demonstrated by Ayr United has really shown what is possible for our community clubs.”
Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care Neil Gray is fulsome in his praise for the Extra Time programme.

At the launch, SFA CEO Ian Maxwell said, “The benefits are significant, we see that on a regular basis. The analysis that the Scottish Government have done talks about young people’s attainment young people’s attendance at school, their engagement at school, the impact it has on their families because not only does it cover pre and post school activity, it covers holiday periods when families can be under pressure in terms of annual leave, in terms of work commitments, in terms of dealing with other children within the family environment so the results are significant and we’ve seen the impact felt up and down the country.”
What next for Scotland and Celtic defender Kieran Tierney?
Well, the Scots have one final World Cup qualifier against Denmark in which, if Scotland win, Tierney will be heading to the big tournament next summer.
Scotland have failed to qualify for a World Cup since France 98 and making the tournament in North America will be an historic achievement.
Scotland know that if they beat Denmark at Hampden on Tuesday night, the World Cup beckons and Celtic hero Tierney will get to ply his trade in the biggest football tournament on the planet.
