Chief Adviser Unveils Trophy in Dhaka on Sunday

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, head of the interim government, on Sunday unveiled the trophy of the second Women’s Kabaddi World Cup 2025 at the State Guest House Jamuna here.  

Bangladesh prepares to roll out the mat for the biggest international event of women’s kabaddi for the very first time in its history. The event is part of the ‘Festival of Youth’ celebration, announced by the interim government of Bangladesh. 

The second edition of the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup 2025 is set to begin on tomorrow (November 17)  at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in the Bangladesh capital Dhaka, with the participation of 11 nations including the defending champions Indian, runners-up Iran and hosts Bangladesh.  

Ten international teams have touched down in Dhaka and joined by the host nation, as the Bangladesh women’s national kabaddi team moved from their intensive training camp directly into the official team hotel and ready for action.

During his address, Chief Adviser Professor Yunus underscored the historic significance of Dhaka hosting the World Cup, reiterating the government’s dedication to delivering a tournament that is inclusive, inspiring, and world-class. 

He extended a warm welcome to all the touring sides and commended the efforts of the organizers, athletes and partners instrumental in making the global event a success.

Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain; Adviser to Ministry of Youth and Sports, Vinod Kumar Tiwari; President of  International Kabaddi Federation (IKF), Md Mahbub-Ul-Alam; Secretary to Ministry of Youth and Sports, Baharul Alam, BPM; Inspector General of Police (IGP) and President of  Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BKF), BKF General Secretary SM Nawaz Shohag and captains of the participating teams were also present on the occasion. 

Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan affirmed the government’s commitment to actively promoting women athletes and expanding their opportunities in competitive sports. 

He also stressed that as Bangladesh’s women consistently prove their talent internationally, the government is dedicated to providing them with every essential support. He concluded that the success of these athletes serves as both national pride and a major inspiration for the next generation.

Bangladesh, who have been put in the  five-team Group A, will play against India, Thailand, Uganda and Germany while Group B comprises  of Iran, Nepal, Chinese Taipei, Poland, Kenya and Zanzibar.

The tournament will end with the final match on November 24.
