Maple Leafs’ Knies to miss Blues game with injury

The Toronto Maple Leafs are down another key player due to injury as they try to snap a five-game winless streak.

Power forward Matthew Knies will miss Tuesday’s game against the St. Louis Blues with a lower-body injury. The Maple Leafs say Knies is day-to-day.

The Maple Leafs are already playing without Auston Matthews, Scott Laughton, Anthony Stolarz, Brandon Carlo, Chris Tanev and Nic Roy.

Sammy Blais will slot into the lineup Tuesday in Knies’ absence after sitting out Saturday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks. He’s appeared in six games for Toronto this season, recording one goal and one assist.

Knies, meanwhile, has appeared in all 22 games for the Leafs this season, scoring five goals and 22 points. It’s unclear when he was injured, as he recorded over 20 minutes of playing time in Saturday’s loss to the Blackhawks.
