The Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team hosts Monmouth Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET in the JMA Wireless Dome. Syracuse is 3-0 to start the season, with wins coming against smaller schools in the surrounding states.

The Orange took down Drexel 80-50 in their most recent game. Freshman Kiyan Anthony scored a game-high 18 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the field. Anthony has made two starts in place of the injured J.J. Starling, Syracuse’s captain and leading scorer last season. In those two starts, Anthony is averaging 18.5 points on 65% shooting from the field.
Orange coach Adrian Autry said Starling is “really close” to returning, though he didn’t give a specific timetable.
“I mean, it’s important because he’s a big part of what we’re doing,’’ Autry said. “He’s our captain, he’s our leader. For our team to be whole, for this program to be where we think we can be, he’s a big part of it and we need him.’’
Monmouth is 1-2 this season, with its one win coming against Division-II Caldwell. Syracuse faces three consecutive ranked opponents after their Monmouth matchup: No. 1 Houston, No. 25 Kansas and No. 20 Tennessee.
