CanMNT’s Davies returns to training at Bayern

Canadian men’s national team star Alphonso Davies returned to training with Bayern Munich on Monday, the club announced on social media.

Davies had been training on his own before re-joining his teammates.

The 25-year-old has been out of commission since tearing his ACL while playing for Canada in March against the United States and his status is a key storyline for the co-hosts leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany told reporters last month Davies could return to action at some point in December.

“It’s definitely looking good,” Kompany told reporters on Oct. 17. “I hoped he’d be back at the beginning of January, but as things stand now, it might be a bit sooner.

“If he can play a few games in December, then everyone will have done a wonderful job. If things continue to go well, then we might have a very, very fit Alphonso Davies back [by then].”

“I’m running and training well,” Davies told the team’s website. “I just need to get a bit more muscle mass on my right leg.

“When the doctors told me how long it could take after the injury, I thought: ‘Wow, that’s going to be a long journey.’ But it’s all looking good now.”

Canada plays Venezuela Tuesday evening in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. as it continues to prepare for next year’s World Cup. Watch the match LIVE at 8:30pm ET/5:30pm PT on TSN1, TSN.ca and the TSN App.
