“I don’t do something unless I think I can win, that’s how my parents raised me,” Reaves tells Rolling Stone. “Anything we did around the house, it was me, my brother, Mom, and Dad, and it would turn into a knock-down, drag-out fight to try to win. So, that’s the way I’m wired. It’s hard for me to have fun in the moment of doing something if I’m not competing to win. It’s kind of a downfall sometimes, but then again, I probably wouldn’t be where I’m at if I wasn’t like that.”
