From 17-21 November 2025, schools across County Sligo are taking part in the annual national programme Clean Air Week 2025, organised by An Taisce’s Green-Schools Ireland. This year marks the seventh edition of the campaign — a focused week of learning, investigation and action aimed at improving the air people breathe around schools.

For this year’s Clean Air Week, pupils, teachers and school communities are being asked to investigate the air around their school, raise awareness of vehicle idling, and take steps to reduce engine emissions during the school run.

Through school-led No Idling Campaigns, drivers parked outside schools are being encouraged to turn off their vehicles and refrain from idling their engines. Green-Schools provides downloadable posters, toolkits, and other resources to support schools on their quest for cleaner air. https://greenschoolsireland.org/clean-air-week-2025/

The Clean Air Week campaign offers competitions and cash-prizes across primary and secondary levels – motivating active participation.

  • It builds positive habits: walking, cycling or scooting to school when feasible; turning off engines when parked; raising awareness about air quality.
  • Engaging in Clean Air Week reinforces each school’s role in sustainability, health, and community responsibility.
