NZ vs WI 2nd ODI: Shai Hope Levels Brian Lara’s Record After Smashing 19th ODI Hundred Against New Zealand

NZ vs WI 2nd ODI: West Indies skipper Shai Hope had put up one of the best knocks of his career as he had scored a brilliant knock of 109 runs and had leveled Brian Lara’s tally of 19 ODI centuries in the second ODI against New Zealand. His brilliant knock helped the visitors bounce back and post a respectable target of 247 runs.

It was his first ODI century against New Zealand, and he has now hit a ton against every Test-playing nation. He is lying in the second position in the list of all-time ODI tons and is just behind Chris Gayle.

Most ODI hundreds for the West Indies

Chris Gayle – 25

Shai Hope – 19

Brian Lara – 19

Desmond Haynes – 17

He had also achieved the milestone of scoring 6000 ODI runs in this format and has become the second-fastest West Indian batter to have done so. He scored 109 runs off 69 balls, in which he had hit 13 fours and four sixes, and helped the visitors score 111 runs in the last nine overs.

This dismissal resulted in a batting collapse. The visitors lost three wickets in the 10th to 15th overs, and they were reeling at 86/5 in the 16th over. Jamieson, Nathan Smith, and Mitchell Santner all took a wicket apiece.

But Hope played the role of a lone warrior. He played his innings aggressively while staying calm and was also assisted well by Justin Greaves, along with whom he built a 44-run partnership. Batters like Nyeem Young and Teddy Bishop failed to convert their starts, and that’s how the burden is on the skipper’s shoulders.
