Dynamic StreetSmarts SUNS Academy product Dylan Patterson has become a Gold Coast SUNS AFL player at tonight’s Telstra AFL Draft at Marvel Stadium.

The explosive Palm Beach Currumbin teenager received a bid from Richmond at Pick 5 which was quickly matched by the SUNS.

Patterson is the second StreetSmarts SUNS Academy graduate selected in the Top 10 at tonight’s Draft, following Zeke Uwland (Pick 2).

Boasting elite raw speed and power, Patterson’s daring approach and willingness to take the game on has caught the eyes of recruiters through his draft year.

Deployed as a dashing half-back, Patterson has earned All Australian honours in both Under 16 and Under 18 levels, also earning selection in the Marsh AFL National Academy in 2025. He’s played 11 VFL games across the last two seasons, finishing with 24 disposals in his most recent outing.

GC SUNS National Recruiting Manager Kall Burns says the club is thrilled to welcome another exciting young talent to its AFL list.

“Dylan has been a member of our StreetSmarts SUNS Academy for many years now and has shown some exceptional attributes which will translate well to AFL level.

“His explosive speed and line-breaking capabilities, which he has put on display at various levels including as an Under 18 All-Australian this year, is something SUNS fans can be excited about.

“It’s fantastic to welcome another product from both the Palm Beach Currumbin Lions and our Academy to our AFL list.”

Patterson joins a host of Palm Beach Currumbin Lions products on the SUNS AFL list alongside the likes of Jed Walter, Ethan Read and Will Graham.
