Code Blue Declared In NYC: What To Know

NEW YORK CITY — The New York City Emergency Management has declared a “code blue” with temperatures expecting to drop around freezing Friday night.

A code blue is activated when temperatures are forecasted to drop to 32 degrees or lower. It will be in effect from 4 p.m. until 8 a.m. Saturday.

During that time there will be increased outreach to homeless people, and they will offer access to shelters to those in need.

If you see a homeless person out in the cold or someone who may need shelter, residents are advised to call 311, and an outreach team will be sent out.

On Saturday, temperatures are expected to be warmer with a high in the 50s, according to forecasts. On Sunday, there will be a chance of showers in the morning hours with wind gust up to 32 mph.
