Michelle Yeoh’s ‘cupcake’ dress from ‘Wicked: For Good’ NY premiere divides the internet: ‘My neon loofah queen’

Long may the loofah queen reign!

Michelle Yeoh earned the cheeky title at the “Wicked: For Good” New York premiere on Monday, floating down the carpet at Lincoln Center in a neon yellow tulle confection that got the internet buzzing.

The Oscar winner, 63, wore a strapless ballgown by Givenchy’s Sarah Burton, the final look from the designer’s debut fall 2025 collection. The voluminous tulle creation was originally shown at Paris Fashion Week in March.

Social media reactions to the bold yellow gown were mixed. Some fans celebrated the return of “camp” while others compared it to a “loofah” and a “cupcake.” WireImage

Social media reactions to the bold and bright look were decidedly mixed, with some fans loving the statement-making moment and others making comparisons to cleaning supplies.

“Camp is sooooo back,” one X user declared. Another joked, “me when i’m mop.”

On Instagram, reactions ranged from admiration to affectionate roasting. “Joan Rivers would have a ball with this,” one commenter wrote, while another crowned her “My neon loofah queen.”

“I love a bright yellow…no matter what!! 💛💛💛” one fan gushed in the comments section of Page Six’s Instagram post of the look.

But others weren’t sold. “27 Munchkins came out of her dress,” one quipped.

“Me trying not to be extra… and accidentally showing up like Tinker Bell after a pixie-dust explosion. 💥” read one post, capturing the gown’s fairy-tale energy.

Yeoh accessorized the voluminous gown with serious sparkle, wearing Mikimoto’s Les Pétales necklace, which features pearls nestled within diamond-encrusted rose petals, along with several diamond rings.

She also broke out one of her signature Richard Mille watches for the occasion, this time a custom RM07-02 watch in clear sapphire — the same timepiece she wore when she became the first Asian woman to win Best Actress at the 2023 Oscars for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

The watch isn’t available for purchase, but if similar Richard Mille RM07-02 styles are any indication, it would likely retail for upwards of $1 million. Yeoh has been a brand ambassador for Richard Mille for years.

The dress was by far the most colorful of Yeoh’s “Wicked: For Good” premiere outfits. She wore a dramatic Iris van Herpen honeycomb gown to the Singapore premiere and a custom Self-Portrait velvet look to the London screening, both paired with Mikimoto jewels.

Yeoh stars as Madame Morrible in “Wicked: For Good,” which opens in theaters this Friday.
