Report: BoSox interested in Bichette

The Boston Red Sox are looking to poach a star from their American League East rival Toronto Blue Jays.

WEEI’s Rob Bradford reports the team is interested in free-agent infielder Bo Bichette.

Bradford notes that Red Sox general manager Craig Breslow was a teammate of Bichette’s in 2018 with the Jays’ Double-A affiliates, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

Bichette, 27, has also had great success at Fenway Park. In 35 career games in Boston, Bichette is a .329 hitter with 47 hits, six home runs, 30 runs batted in and an OPS of .907.

A native of Orlando, Bichette just wrapped up his seventh big league season. He hit .311 with 181 hits, 18 home runs, 94 runs batted in and an OPS of .840 in 139 games played. With a knee injury incurred in early September, Bichette missed the American League Division Series and the AL Championship Series, returning in time for the World Series. He had eight hits in seven games, including a three-run home run in Game 7.

As for where Bichette would play in Boston, the team could have options. Bradford notes that much would depend on free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman. Should Bregman depart, Bichette could slot in at the hot corner or Marcelo Mayer could shift over to third with Bichette handling duties at second base.
