Sara Cox shared a “depressing” marriage update with husband Ben Cyzer. Sara found love with advertising executive Ben in 2006, a year after splitting from her first husband.

The BBC Radio 2 star married Ben in 2013, with the couple now sharing daughter Renee and son Isaac. She also has another daughter, Lola, from her marriage to DJ Jon Carter.

Sara, 50, however has now opened up about a nighttime struggle she has with Ben. Speaking on The Teen Commandments podcast, Sara says Ben’s snoring can leave her moving into a separate bedroom.

She said: “This is my issue that I’ve got with Ben in the night if I wake up, just him breathing is annoying. Not during the day, I just mean any slight noises.

“You know on a wildlife documentary when they have a shot of an animal that’s on high alert for a predator? I feel like I’ve got that heaving in the middle of the night, I can just hear the tiniest [noise]…it’s just so magnified in the middle of the night.

“I think there’s a bit of anxiety in there. I remember in my twenties if I woke up at like half one, I probably wouldn’t have been in bed at half one, but if I woke up in the middle of the night and it was like 3am, in my twenties I’d be like, ‘Yeah, I’ve got loads of time to sleep, amazing’. Now I’m 50 I go, ‘F**k, it’s three, I’m not going to sleep, I’m never going to get back to sleep again’.

“So I need to tap into that twenties energy of thinking, ‘I’ve got loads of time to sleep’.”

When asked what she does with Ben when he wakes her in the night, Sara replied: “I nudge him, he’s really patient, he’s great about it, and then we just keep sleeping in separate rooms, which is a bit depressing.”

Sara has recently completed the Great Northern Marathon for BBC Children in Need. She ran 135 miles from Kielder Forest on the border of Scotland and England to Pudsey in Yorkshire, raising over £10 million in the process.

Her gruelling journey was captured for the documentary Sara Cox: Every Step of the Way for Children in Need, which airs on BBC One from 8pm tonight (November 19). Speaking to the BBC after completing the challenge, Sara said: “It’s just the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

“I’ve never known pain like it but then I’ve never had eye contact with so many amazing women as I’ve run along, who have just powered me on.

“Just at the side of the road in the driving rain, it was bitterly cold and wet and filthy and so many people came out.

“The truck drivers honking their horns, the farmers stopping work to come and say hi, just the kids by the side of the road, everyone. Loads of homemade signs, [it was] just incredible.”
