Gethin Jones suffers awkward moment with autocue error on BBC Morning Live

BBC Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones found himself in an uncomfortable moment after making a gaffe during the live broadcast.
On Tuesday’s (November 18) instalment of BBC Breakfast, presenters Jon Kay and Sally Nugent returned to screens as they delivered the morning’s headlines from the famous red sofa.
Midway through the programme, the pair were eager to discover what was coming up on BBC Morning Live, which follows directly after Breakfast.
Addressing the audience, Sally said: “Now Morning Live follows Breakfast on BBC One this morning. Let’s find out what they have for us this morning, it’s Gethin and Kim. Morning.”
The feed then switched to the Morning Live set, where Gethin and Kym Marsh were positioned on sofas facing one another, reports Wales Online.
Gethin immediately launched into giving audiences a preview of today’s programme content.
But it was a particular instance that caused the broadcaster to become embarrassed after an uncomfortable autocue mistake.
Whilst covering a specific item, an image of a children’s publication appeared on screen as Kym remarked: “Now look at this, This might seem like an ordinary book but one tiny typo meant that it sold for £350k.”
She continued: “Bargain Hunts Kate Bliss has the trade secrets to help you cash in on treasures you might not even know you might have.”
Gethin then mistakenly stated the incorrect time as he announced: “We will see you at 10:30.” Quickly rectifying the error, he extended his hands and exclaimed: “It’s a typo, a typo. It’s 9:30.”
The studio erupted in laughter as Sally teased: “You weren’t just reading the words, where you? Come on.”
Gethin quipped: “What do you mean words? This show isn’t scripted.” Jon chimed in: “We thought ‘oh no we have to do another hour’. We will see you at 9:30, don’t be late Kym and Geth.”
Meanwhile on BBC Breakfast, Sally and Jon were joined by Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas, who opened up about her mum’s “debilitating” illness.
The professional dancer has been caring for her mum Audrey Rich, 88, who is living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, since she was diagnosed in 2022.
In an emotional moment, she confessed: “This isn’t something you can see so with my mum I’ve witnessed her choking, I’ve been out with her when she is out of breath and of course she lives with me.She continued: ‘It’s quite sad, it’s debilitating and of course it’s never going to get any better so it’s about finding a way to help her care for that and of course keeping her safe from any of the flus going around.”
BBC Morning Live airs weekdays from 9:30am on BBC One and iPlayer
