Donal Skehan thanks fans for support after being rushed to hospital

Donal Skehan has thanked his fans for their support after he was rushed to the hospital.

The chef and podcast host explained that he fell ill on Sunday after cooking a family lunch, with him having a pain that ‘got worse and worse’ and saw him stop eating.

Donal was eventually rushed to the Mater Hospital in Dublin, where he found out he had appendicitis. He would later have an operation to have his appendix removed, with him thanking fans for their support while he shared pics from his hospital bed.

‘Well I’ve now learned all I need to know about the appendix and appendicitis,’ Donal joked on his Instagram story. ‘The last 24 hours have been non-stop. Had the opp [appendectomy] last night to have it removed.’

Donal thanked those at the Mater for helping him, explaining that he began experiencing the pain when he was cooking his family Sunday lunch.

‘Cooked Sunday family lunch for 10 and noticed a pain which got worse and worse,’ Donal wrote. ‘Thankful to have caught it early. I hope it wasn’t the sticky toffee pud,’ he joked. ‘On the mend – thanks for the lovely messages.’

Donal went on to share lovely cards from his sons, Oliver and Noah, with the lads drawing hearts on the get well soon card for their dad; with him also sharing his hospital Netflix recommendations, and a photo of him in the sought-after compression socks people get when they go to the hospital.

Donal’s health scare comes as he took a cheeky dig at Samantha Mumba’s comments earlier in the year after he judged Eurosong alongside Laura Fox and Arthur Gourounlian.

Samantha told the trio to eat a bag of ‘aubergines’ after they sent EMMY to the Eurovision, while Donal took the comments in stride; even dressing up as said vegetable over Halloween.

‘Happy Halloween, everybody! PSA: Be safe while trick or treating out there, from your friendly neighbourhood aubergine!’ Donal joked.

‘P.P.S.A.: ONLY ACCEPT sweets, fruit and nuts in your bag tonight!’
