Coronation Street confirms two characters concerned for Todd Grimshaw in early ITVX episode

Coronation Street spoilers follow from Wednesday’s episode (19 November), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.

Coronation Street‘s Summer Spellman and Billy Mayhew are both baffled tonight as they discover Todd Grimshaw’s shocking departure from Shuttleworth’s Funeral Services. With Todd clearly not acting like his usual self, could Theo Silverton’s abuse be exposed soon?

The show’s latest episode sees Todd adjust to unemployment, following his decision to quit his job at the funeral parlour following a row with long-time mentor and friend George Shuttleworth. Theo engineered the situation by encouraging Todd to stand up for himself against George, then backtracked when Todd followed his advice.

In tonight’s visit to Weatherfield, Todd tries to focus entirely on Theo by preparing a romantic meal for the two of them. But the changing dynamics aren’t going entirely unnoticed…

First up, Summer crosses paths with Todd at the corner shop and is surprised to learn that he’s forgotten all about their plans to spend some time together that day.

Summer points out that it’s been ages since they caught up – a sign of how Todd is becoming increasingly isolated in his relationship with Theo.

At the café, Nina Lucas tips off Summer and Billy about Todd’s acrimonious departure from Shuttleworth’s, which adds to the mystery.

“No way! He loves working with George,” Summer points out when she hears the news. “Something as important as this and he doesn’t even mention it. What is going on?”

Billy is equally confused, noting Todd’s strange move to quit his job when he has nothing else lined up.

Can Todd and Theo continue to put on a front for the outside world, or are people starting to get suspicious?

Corrie bosses recently announced plans to further explore Todd and Theo’s abusive relationship in a special episode airing in the run-up to Christmas.

Show producer Kate Brooks said last month: “It’s a hard watch. We’re not rooting for Todd and Theo in any way, shape or form. This story will naturally progress. Hopefully Todd will realise what is going on and that this is not acceptable.

“We’re not rooting for this couple – we’re rooting for Todd. We’re rooting for Todd to see the light. As we take in George and Christina and Sarah – all these people who care about and love Todd – they are absolutely oblivious to what’s going on between the two behind closed doors.

“And it’s going to be really interesting to watch what happens when people do get a peek inside at what happens behind closed doors…”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
