Sony And ‘Fortnite’ Put PS5 On Sale For Black Friday

PlayStation Black Friday
Sony
While we are still over a week away from Black Friday, which involves less camping out at stores and more just buying things online like most of us do (I guess “Cyber Monday” is still a thing). Now, Sony has announced its Black Friday deals for PS5 and its accessories. In two cases, it’s $100 off.
These discounts are courtesy of a Fortnite bundle that is packaged with both types of consoles. The PS5 Digital Edition 825GB is $400 with a Fortnite Flowering Chaos Bundle. The PS5 Console 1 TB with the same Fortnite bundle is $449. You may recall this is in the wake of tariff-based price hikes on PS5 hardware some time ago, so we’re pretty much back where we started. On top of that, even the PS5 Pro is $100 off for the sale.
These are not the only discounts on PS5 things for the sale, there’s also:
- $100 USD off PlayStation VR2
- $20 USD off PlayStation Portal remote player
- $20 USD off Pulse Elite wireless headset
- $30 USD off Pulse Explore wireless earbuds
- $30 USD off DualSense Edge wireless controller
- $20 USD off DualSense wireless controller
- $20 USD off Access controller
- Various discounts on PS5 games such as Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Lost Soul Aside, Astro Bot, and God of War Ragnarök.
Plus, you can save 33% on a year-long membership to PS Plus, and if you already have that, you can save 33% on the remainder of your membership if you upgrade tiers within PS Plus. Clever.
It remains to be seen if Xbox will do similar Black Friday deals to get close to matching these. Xbox has double hiked prices on most hardware, upping prices to eyebrow-raising levels on most hardware for a hardware business that has already been struggling badly. The larger question here at this point is if Xbox might offer any significant discounts on any of its Game Pass tiers, where it’s leaning into that subscription service more than anything else these days.
We are in the tail end of this console generation, one won handily by Nintendo, and now with the Switch 2 being the fastest-selling console ever, that’s probably going to keep happening. The PlayStation 5 has now sold 84.2 million units, about to pass the PS3, but a ways off from the 117 million of the PS4 and the 160 million of the #1 seller of all time, the PS2. But there are still many years left in its lifespan, and Black Friday is certainly a day that PS5 wants to expand that playerbase.
