Is ‘Wicked’ star Ariana Grande ending her music career? What she says about upcoming tour

Ethan Slater opens up about ‘Wicked: For Good’ premiere encounter

Ethan Slater, one of the stars of “Wicked: For Good,” chats with USA TODAY’s Ralphie Aversa about the movie’s rollout and fan interactions.

Arianators have shown unconditional support for their favorite pop star’s acting ventures, but some may be secretly concerned about her leaving music for good (no pun intended).

During a Tuesday, Nov. 18 episode of the “Good Hang With Amy Poehler,” Ariana Grande referred to her upcoming tour as her “one last hurrah.”

Since being cast as Glinda in “Wicked,” the former child star turned A-list singer has managed to juggle two successful careers as a musician and actor. The Grammy winner portrayed the bubbly yet self-absorbed witch in last year’s musical film adaptation as well as in the upcoming sequel “Wicked: For Good” (out in theaters Friday, Nov. 21).

The first movie earned her an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress, and awards pundits have already considered her a strong contender for next year’s race.

Last year, Grande also released her seventh studio album, “Eternal Sunshine,” which landed her three Grammy nominations, and a deluxe edition titled “Brighter Days Ahead” this past March.

Earlier this month, she and co-star Cynthia Erivo were nominated for the best pop duo/group performance Grammy for their “Wicked” rendition of “Defying Gravity,” which the pair performed live at the Oscars last year. She’s also preparing to embark on the Eternal Sunshine Tour, running from June 2026 through Sept. 1, after not touring since 2019.

What did Ariana Grande mean by her ‘last hurrah’?

The “Popular” singer hinted that her upcoming tour, with stops at just 10 cities, may be her last one for quite some time. “I’m very excited to do this small tour, but I think it might not happen again for a long, long, long, long time,” she told Poehler in the Tuesday podcast episode. “So I’m going to give it my all and it’s going to be beautiful and I think that’s why I’m doing it, because it’s like, one last hurrah.”

The 2026 tour is much smaller in scale than her massive 2019 one, which included nearly 100 shows across two continents within the span of a year.

Does Ariana Grande plan to quit music?

The 32-year-old has previously assured her fans that she will hold space for her music career as she continues her acting career.

“Very silly of you all to assume that just because i have my hands full with many things that i plan to abandon singing & music … !!!” she wrote in a July 19 Instagram post. “it is and has always been my lifeline. there will need to be room made for all of it. 🧚🏼‍♂️”

With her Glinda era coming to an end, she has taken on a role in the upcoming “Meet the Parents” comedy sequel titled “Focker In-Law” and has been cast in the 13th season of “American Horror Story,” her first TV role in over a decade.
