NBA.com ranks Pelicans rookies Jeremiah Fears, Derik Queen at No. 6, 7 on this week’s Ladder

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The Pelicans might be 2-12, but their rookie class has been a bright spot this season.

Rookie guard Jeremiah Fears and center Derik Queen have had their share of beginner’s mistakes, but have been acclimating to the professional level and are getting recognition for their efforts.

The NBA tracks the progression of rookies leaguewide with its weekly “Ladder” updates, a progress report that follows who could become Rookie of the Year at the end of the season.

In the rankings this week, which get updated every Wednesday, Fears is ranked at No. 6 and Queen rises to No. 7.

Point guard Fears is averaging 15.3 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists while shooting 45 percent from the floor. Queen is averaging 10.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3 assists while shooting 47 percent from the floor.

NBA.com reports that fans can expect a higher usage rate from both Fears and Queen with interim head coach James Borrego at the helm, replacing former head coach Willie Green.

The Pelicans host the Denver Nuggets tonight live on the Gulf Coast Sports and Entertainment Network. Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.
