Shinigami Hime to Ishokan no Kaibutsu announced for Nintendo Switch 2, Switch – new “picture book” game

Today, Nippon Ichi Software pulled back the curtain on Shinigami Hime to Ishokan no Kaibutsu for Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch. A release is planned for April 30, 2026 in Japan.
Shinigami Hime to Ishokan no Kaibutsu is a new game that follows The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince and The Cruel King and the Great Hero. It was previously teased as Shinigami Hime.
Shinigami Hime to Ishokan no Kaibutsu is the latest in the “picture book” series, following The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince and The Cruel King and the Great Hero, depicting the interactions between humans and monsters.
As with previous series, character design and worldview will be handled by Sayaka Oda, while the screenplay will be handled by Kento Shirohana, who has written stories for titles such as Disgaea 7: Hour of Darkness and Bar Stellar Abyss.
This title depicts the emotional exchange and salvation between Mono, a young girl who visits the Ishokan treatment facility to save her sister, who has been infected with the dreaded “Shinigami disease,” and the goat monster Mehelhendia, who takes advantage of her, as well as the girls who have been transformed into monsters by the disease.
While retaining the picture book-like expression using analog illustrations that is a characteristic of the picture book series, this title deliberately uses a monochrome field, creating a world that is eerie and strange, yet somehow beautiful, that sets it apart from previous picture book series.
Players can then interact with this picture book world with their own hands, destroying and transforming it, providing a new gaming experience.
