Two dead, four critically injured following Brampton house fire: police

CP24’s Courtney Heels has the latest after a fire in Brampton that killed two people and sent four others to hospital.

Two adults are dead and four others, including a child, are in hospital with serious injuries following a fire at a home in Brampton early Thursday morning.

The two-alarm blaze broke out at a home on Banas Way, located near McLaughlin and Remembrance roads, at around 2 a.m.

Police said two adults were pronounced dead at the scene and four others, including a child, were transported to hospital in critical condition. The four victims remain in hospital in serious condition, Brampton Fire Chief Andy Glynn said in an update outside the home on Thursday morning.

Glynn said multiple people are still unaccounted for following the fire but he could not provide the exact number of missing occupants.

“Because we haven’t been able to gain access to the unit, we don’t know if they are inside or away,” he said.

Glynn said the Office of the Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate the deadly blaze.

“When crews arrived, it was a pretty significant fire. We had fire through the roof on arrival and we’ve had structural collapse inside the building,” he added.

He was unable to provide any information on the ages of the victims.

“It is a sad day and thoughts and prayers to everybody,” Glynn said.

Adjacent homes were also damaged during the fire but officials say all occupants of those homes were able to evacuate safely.

An investigation will be conducted into the cause, origin, and circumstances surrounding the fire.

“I can say it is just too early to tell at this point if there is anything suspicious or criminal in nature,” Peel Police Acting Sgt. Tyler Bell told reporters at the scene.
