St. Louis Blues & Montreal Canadiens Emerging as Trade Partners

Keep an eye on the St. Louis Blues and Montreal Canadiens. Trade talks are picking up around the league and these two teams have been linked to a deal involving Blues forward Alex Texier.
Texier isn’t happy with his role on the Blues, and with the Canadiens desperate need for forward help, they have been linked to a trade together by hockey insider Elliotte Friedman.
Less than one week after David Kampf terminated his contract to stay in the NHL at a lower salary, there are rumours that Alexandre Texier is considering the same. He has played only one game for St. Louis since Oct. 28 and is making $2.1 million. Would Texier make any sense for Montreal? The Canadiens are looking to plug injury holes. The standings are tight, so few white flags are waving.
Texier, 26, is making $2.1 million AAV this season and is a pending restricted free agent. He’s appeared in eight games this season, adding one assist, and averaging just 10:15 of ice-time per game. Texier has been used as a depth power-play option when he does dress, and has also landed nine hits in his eight appearances.
The Canadiens have been in on a few different forwards on the market as they look to add up front. Injuries have hit Montreal hard this season, and with the team rolling, GM Kent Hughes doesn’t want their early-season momentum to slip away.
The Blues on the other hand are inching closer to a fire sale, and Texier will be just one of the players who will be talked about in trade talks, as you can include Jordan Kyrou, Brayden Schenn, Justin Faulk, and Jordan Binnington.
