Emmerdale star Chris Coghill has broken his silence on filming an ‘excruciating’ scene for last night’s episode of the ITV soap.

The scene in question saw Kev Townsend take to the mic during the karaoke party and serenade Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) in the hope of winning him back.

Fans could hardly contain their amusement at the scene, as Kev struggled with his emotions – and hitting the high notes!

Taking to social media, they wondered how many takes it took to film, and how the rest of the cast members managed to keep a straight face throughout.

As a treat for fans, Chris took to Instagram to share a behind the scenes clip of him performing the whole song, along with the answers to their questions.

‘First of all… thank you for the love for Kev.. secondly a few people of asked how many takes it took to film tonight’s ’singing’ … the answer is I did the full song all the way through once. SO… under extreme duress from production here is the most utterly excruciating 4 f****** minutes of my life…’ He wrote alongside the video.

The comments were instantly filled with love and support from Chris’ Emmerdale castmates, praising him for his commitment to the work.

‘Easily one of the funniest and most heartbreaking scenes I’ve ever done,’ Danny Miller, who plays Aaron Dingle, wrote.

‘That’s iconic,’ Tracy Shankley star Amy Walsh wrote, while Charles Anderson actor Kevin Mathurin said: ‘TV gold, big man!’

‘We love Kev,’ Isabel Hodgins, who plays Victoria Sugden, penned, while Vinny Dingle star Bradley Johnson added: ‘Absolutely brilliant!’

Even EastEnders star Navin Chowdhry, who played evil villain Nish Panesar, was a fan, writing: ‘I cannot stop watching this…’

Since his arrival in the village this autumn, Kev has been a hit among fans.

Though the revelation that he was Robert’s husband threw a spanner in the works for Robron fans, he has proved to be a popular character.

In the past few weeks, he has been incredibly busy, having renewed his vows to Robert under the false pretence that he was dying.

While Kev does have a terminal illness, Dr Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) uncovered the fact that Kev actually has decades left.

Despite Kev’s efforts to keep Liam quiet so as not to disrupt his marriage, it proved fruitless when Robert dumped him last week for entirely different reasons.

However, with Robert still convinced that Kev’s demise is just around the corner, will Kev succeed in winning him back?
