Sergio Scariolo: Our motivation is to go out and win every game

Sergio Scariolo, the head coach of Real Madrid, spoke about the team’s upcoming game against Zalgiris in Round 12 of the EuroLeague.

The Italian coach emphasized how tough this game will be, considering Zalgiris’ performances so far, as they currently hold a 7–4 record in the EuroLeague:

“We’re facing one of the best teams in these early EuroLeague games. They have a very good offensive performance, with a high shooting percentage and the ability to go on the fast break, especially from the turnovers they know how to force on the opponent.”

“Offensively, we have to continue being able to generate the high-percentage shots we’ve had so far , but trying to convert them. That’s what completely changes everything, even in terms of having more fluidity and space inside the paint. They’ll come. We’ve had games with a very high shooting percentage but without consistency . We have to keep working to generate those shots and practice them in training to try to improve our ability to convert them into baskets.”

Speaking about the team’s motivation and overall mindset, Sergio Scariolo emphasized, among other things, that the team must stay motivated regardless of wins or losses:

“In a competition like this, you always go out to win every game, both at home and away, but the motivation is the same as always: to go out and win every game.”

Scariolo also spoke about Theo Maledon’s adaptation and his role as point guard or shooting guard:

“He feels more comfortable at point guard. That’s obvious. Another thing is whether he can adapt to playing shooting guard. For us, it’s a resource we can use, and we do. Then, the defensive aspect has to allow us to play with two relatively small players . That’s sometimes possible and sometimes not. His nature and history have always been that of a one-man player, but he’s showing that he can adapt to playing alongside Campazzo. ”

Asked about the team’s injury situation, including Andres Feliz and Alex Len, Scariolo said that some decisions still need to be made in the final moments before the game and that it is unlikely the team will be fully complete tomorrow.
