McVerry Trust spent €300,000 refurbishing driveway and built peacock enclosure at period property

Ex-Peter McVerry Trust CEO says former board seemed to “transition from ignorance to self-preservation”

The Peter McVerry Trust spent €300,000 on refurbishing a driveway at a period property it owned in Kildare, and constructed a peacock enclosure and unauthorised lift shaft at the same property, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had been told.

The former CEO of the housing charity, Francis Doherty, appeared before the committee to discuss the financial crisis the charity faced in recent years, which resulted in a €15 million bailout from government.
