Queen’s awkward ‘weight’ remark to UK star

Queen Camilla has shared an awkward exchange with a BAFTA-winning actress during a trip to South Wales, raising eyebrows with a remark about her weight.
The Queen was at the historic Cyfartha Castle with King Charles, in honour of his 77th birthday, where the pair was greeted with a host of famous Welsh stars – including Gavin And Stacey writer and actress, Ruth Jones.
In footage shared on X by the Daily Mail’s royal editor Rebecca English, it’s clear the Queen doesn’t immediately recognise Jones, despite her years on screen as the beloved Nessa Smith.
Gavin And Stacey aired from 2007 until 2010, returning last December for a Christmas special.

Once she realised, the royal bluntly remarked: “Haven’t you lost masses of weight?”
A surprised-looking Jones, who has met the Queen previously, burst out laughing and responded: “Yes I have, thank you! I’ve lost a bit of weight.”
Jones has spoken publicly about her “lifelong” battle with her weight and revealed in a 2024 interview that she’d dropped around 25 kilograms through “aversion therapy”, which saw a hypnotist train her to give up chocolate.
“I hate the word ‘struggled’ with my weight, but I have been in a battle with my weight all of my life. As long as I can remember. I can’t ever remember being slim,” Jones said on the Table Manners podcast, adding that she’d initially been “cynical” about the therapy treatment.
“Anyway, it worked. It completely worked,” she said.
“I didn’t eat chocolate for five years. I couldn’t stand the smell of it.”
