Tiffin, Ohio witnessed one of its most harrowing murder-suicide cases on Wednesday evening, when 42-year-old Ryan Eagon fatally shot two young children and a 29-year-old man before killing himself. Police say the attack unfolded just after 6:24 p.m. on the 100 block of Huss Street, a residential stretch seldom associated with violent crime. The mother of the children, who was present during the shooting, survived without injury.
Investigators confirmed that the victims were her seven-year-old son, her seven-month-old infant and Dustin Wiley, a 29-year-old who was inside the home at the time. According to CBS affiliate WTOL11, Wiley was the son of the eldest child killed in the shooting, deepening the emotional blow for family members already grappling with the tragedy. Tiffin Police described the incident as a “targeted attack,” citing domestic issues between Eagon and his wife.
Police outline chilling sequence on Huss Street
On Thursday, the Tiffin Police Department released new details about how the events unfolded inside the quiet neighbourhood. Investigators said the mother had been preparing to move out, and Wiley was helping her pack while the two children played near a car in the driveway. She told officers she heard the seven-year-old cry out moments before the shooting began.
When she and Wiley stepped outside, they reportedly saw Eagon in the parkway approaching the property. Cleveland 9 News reported that witnesses saw Eagon chase Wiley down the parkway first, shooting him before returning to the driveway. Police say he then shot the two children at close range, leaving the scene before turning the weapon on himself.
Community left shaken as motive remains unclear
The seven-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, according to emergency responders. Tiffin Fire and Rescue transported Wiley and the infant to hospital, but both died shortly after arrival despite medical intervention. The mother, who spoke briefly with local reporters, said the attack left her “traumatized,” and asked for privacy as she grieves.
Police have not disclosed a clear motive, though they confirmed there were ongoing domestic issues and a planned separation. They say the timeline suggests Eagon returned home earlier than expected, encountering the family during the move. As investigators continue collecting statements and reviewing evidence, officials say there are no further threats to the community.
