Magnitude 4.3 earthquake hits Yunlin County

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake struck Yunlin at 3:43am today, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.

The hypocenter was 17km southeast of Yunlin County Hall at a depth of 5.4km, CWA data showed.

There were no immediate reports of damage.

The intensity of the quake, which gauges the actual effect of a seismic event, measured 4 in Yunlin County on Taiwan’s seven-tier intensity scale, the data showed.

The earthquake had an intensity of 3 in Chiayi County and Chiayi City, while it was measured as 2 in Tainan City, Changhua and Nantou counties, the data showed.

The quake was followed by a magnitude 3.3 earthquake at 8:27am.

The hypocenter was 16.9km southeast of Yunlin County Hall at a depth of 5.2km, CWA data showed.

The quake had an intensity of 4 in Yunlin County.
