Heat Set For First Nations Round | Two Changes To Squad

The Brisbane Heat have made two changes to their Weber Women’s Big Bash League squad for tomorrow night’s First Nations Round clash with the Sydney Thunder at Allan Border Field.
Indian international Jemimah Rodrigues will miss the game due to pre-arranged personal commitments in India, while allrounder Grace Harris has been ruled out due to calf soreness.
Experienced English batter Lauren Winfield-Hill has been approved by the WBBL Technical Committee as an International Replacement Player and comes into the squad for the two weekend matches, with Rodrigues returning to Australia early next week.
Harris will be assessed again on Saturday with a view to her availability for Sunday night’s WBBL clash with the Melbourne Stars at Allan Border Field.
She has been replaced in the Heat’s squad of 13 by pace bowler Bonnie Berry.
Winfield-Hill has played 27 WBBL games for the Heat and was a member of the squad that made the Final last season.
Tomorrow night’s match will see the Heat debut their new-look First Nations playing kit.
The playing shirt captures “The Gathering” story which is shared by Ipswich artist and cultural educator Rhan Hooper, a proud Kunja and Kooma man from south-western Queensland.
Hooper, who played AFL for the Brisbane Lions and Hawthorn, has crafted a story that combines his personal story along with the distinctive elements of the city and venues where the Heat play.
As Hooper explains: “The central yarning circle represents the Gabba and city. The outer circles represent the community which is making their way to the Gabba to the game.”
“The central swirl represents the Brisbane River and where we gather either side to collect fish and camp.”
“The cross-hatching represents the journey of my tribe, the Kooma mob. The emu and kangaroo tracks represents Australia and the coat of arms. The kangaroo is also my totem. The little dots are the knowledge of the people and the players, past and present.”
As well as the playing shirts, the artwork elements will be integrated on match days through the Heat’s event presentations at Allan Border Field.
The Heat will again make the auction of signed First Nations playing shirts part of its fund-raising contribution through the Queensland Cricket Foundation.
