The incident occurred during the third period of Friday night’s Steelheads-Generals game in Brampton, with the Steelheads ahead 3-0. Dragusica was given a match penalty after the slash, and Brampton hung on to win 3-1.
Dragusica’s suspension is “pending review” according to the OHL’s website.
Blaseg was bleeding as he was tended to by a trainer after the slash. According to a league source, Blaseg was cut open across his mouth and his “face is pretty bruised,” but he got stitched up, didn’t lose any teeth and X-rays at the dentist came back negative. He is set to have an MRI on Sunday.
“He’s doing OK,” the league source said. “I wouldn’t rule anything out.”
The Athletic has also reached out to the Generals, Steelheads and the OHL for comment.
Blaseg has two assists in 19 games this year. The 17-year-old Ottawa, Ontario, native is in his second year of his OHL career with the Generals.
Dragusica, a Stoney Creek, Ontario native, is in his third year in the OHL, and his second with the Steelheads. The 18-year-old has two assists in 15 games this season.
