Oscar winners Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.
“I love you today as I did then,” Zeta-Jones, from Swansea, said in an Instagram post showing photos of the couple over the years.
The pair got married at a star-studded event at the Plaza Hotel in New York on 18 November 2000.
Douglas published his own Instagram post paying tribute to “my darling Catherine”, adding “Who knew?”
The couple, who have two children – Carys and Dylan – met at a film festival in France in August 1998.
Douglas’ infamous chat-up line that first night was: “I want to be the father of your children.”
“I’ve heard a lot about you, I’ve seen a lot about you and I think it’s time for me to say goodnight,” she said in response, Douglas told Jonathan Ross in 2016.
In 2019, she recalled the moment, joking: “You know what the worst thing is? He was right.”
Earlier this year, Zeta-Jones said people said the marriage “would never last”, describing the 25th anniversary as “really quite thrilling”.
Douglas has regularly travelled to his wife’s native country, saying he was enamoured by the people and countryside but described the Welsh weather as “brutal”.
Zeta-Jones began her career on the London stage before starring in the television adaptation of The Darling Buds of May, which aired in the early 1990s.
But it was in Hollywood and on Broadway where she became an international star.
In 2003 she won best supporting actress for her role in the hit musical Chicago and a Tony award for her Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music. In 2010 she was appointed a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.
In 2019, Douglas joined her for an event where Zeta-Jones was given the honorary freedom of the City and County of Swansea.
During the ceremony, Zeta-Jones described the award as “a real honour”.
