A major fault with a signalling system has led to the closure of all rail lines in the Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent area.
Disruption is expected until the end of the day with National Rail warning, external services on a number of routes may be cancelled, delayed by up to 90 minutes or revised.
Routes between Stafford and Crewe, Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester Piccadilly and Derby are affected.
Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway and Northern services are afftected. Avanti West Coast is advising customers do not travel on all routes between London and Manchester / Liverpool / Holyhead and Preston.
