Church news: Congregations plan Holy Communion services

St. Luke FWB

St. Luke Free Will Baptist Church in Stantonsburg will have Holy Communion at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22. Quarterly meeting is at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, with Bishop Willie Thomas as speaker. A light lunch will be served after the service.

First Missionary Baptist, Lucama

First Missionary Baptist Church of Lucama will celebrate homecoming at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 23. Pastor Jeffrey Simms will preach, and the FBL Combine Choir will sing.

St. James Christian

St. James Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m. each week. The Rev. Della J. Owens-Barber is senior pastor. Bible study is 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Youth Bible study is 1-3 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month. The church’s Community Wellness and Mind Initiative will focus on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder with a seminar at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at the St. James 

Piney Groves FWB

Piney Groves Free Will Baptist Church will celebrate Family and Friends Day Sunday, Nov. 23. Sunday school is at 9:45 a.m. Worship service is at 11 a.m. with Bishop Robert Smith preaching and the Senior Choir singing. At 3 p.m. Bishop Jimmy Williams and Olive Chapel Church in Elm City will close out the day’s services. The church is located at 309 N. Vick St.

Life in the Word

Life in the Word Ministry will have Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. followed by worship service at 11 Sunday, Nov. 23. The Rev. George Atkinson will speak. Bible study is at noon on Wednesdays.

St. Paul Church of Christ

St. Paul Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ will have Sunday School at 9:45 Sunday, Nov.  23, followed at 11 a.m. with worship service and Holy Communion with Bishop Chester L. Aycock as the preacher. Music will be provided by the Mass Choir. Intercessory prayer is on Tuesday at 6 p.m., and Bible study is Thursday at 7 p.m. The church is located at 4009 Lake Wilson Road.

City of Refuge

City of Refuge of North Carolina, 136 Walnut St., has worship service at 11 a.m. each Sunday. Men’s prayer is 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month. Men’s fellowship is 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month. Power of Deliverance service is held on Thursdays at 7 p.m. Radio broadcasting is every Tuesday morning at 10 on 98.1 FM.
