A Place in the Sun presenter Jasmine Harman has shared a heartfelt tribute to her good friend Jonnie Irwin, who died in February last year. The TV star, known for fronting A Place in the Sun and Escape to the Country, died after a battle with cancer. Jasmine Harman, who joined the Channel 4 property show in 2004, was heartbroken when her co-star lost his battle to lung cancer.

Jonnie Irwin was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2022 and died in February 2024 at the age of 50. Jasmine regularly updates fans on her life away from the screen and recently shared a throwback photo of herself and Jonnie, accompanied by an emotional tribute.

Sharing a photograph from 20 years ago, Jasmine took the time to wish Jonnie a “Happy heavenly birthday”. The TV presenter wrote: “Happy heavenly birthday, dearest Jonnie. We miss you so much, but especially this weekend when I was celebrating my 50th.

“You were there at my 30th birthday and my 40th – always the life and soul of the party. I never thought the day would come when I would catch up with you in age. The last time we saw each other was your 50th birthday!

“This pic was taken 20 years ago! I will always treasure the memories of the fun times we had. Sending so much love to your lovely family.”

Fans rushed to the comments on social media to send their support. One said: “Such a lovely man and will always be missed. Happy heavenly birthday, Jonnie xx.”

A second said: “Lovely photo. Happy heavenly Birthday Jonnie.” A third added: “Lovely words. What a great friendship you had. Xx.”

It isn’t the first time Jasmine has shared a heartwarming tribute to her co-star. Sharing a statement shortly after his death, she wrote: “Jonnie, you’ve taught me so much in our time as work colleagues and as good friends.

“I have never admired you more than over the last few years as you’ve faced life with cancer with positivity, determination and bloody-mindedness. I’ve never known anyone as strong as you. You have done yourself, your loved ones and all of us proud.”

Jasmine joined A Place in the Sun in 2004 and has since appeared in over 200 episodes. Jasmine’s house-hunting skills proved to come in handy when she was looking for a home in Spain for her family. In 2023, she made her dream move away from London to sunny Estepona on Spain’s Costa del Sol.

She recently launched her own series with Channel 4, Jasmine’s Renovation In The Sun. The programme documents exactly how Jasmine and her family purchased a rundown Spanish villa and made it their dream home.

The series gives an insight into the work that goes into making the family’s dream come true as they juggle the demands of a renovation, busy jobs, young kids, making friends, and building a life for themselves in Spain.

While renovating the property, Jasmine’s husband, Jon, suffered a heart attack. The worrying scenes were shown in an episode of Jasmine’s Renovation in the Sun.

Construction work was halted when Jon was filmed being taken to hospital after falling ill. Scenes showed doctors telling Jon he had suffered a heart attack.

After the episode, Jasmine took to Instagram to share how “fortunate” the family feel. In a video of the couple, she said: “Everything that we have gone through this year, and I still feel very lucky and very fortunate.”

The presenter said: “Thank you everyone for watching. We have just been overwhelmed with replies, and with everyone’s comments and feedback, it’s been amazing.”
