Whistler Blackcomb Resort opens first ski run of the season

Ski season has begun. Sort of.

Whistler Blackcomb Resort opened one run — Wishbone — on Blackcomb Mountain to skiers and boarders Friday morning.

Senior Patrol Manager Adam Mercer says the resort will expand in terrain as conditions allow.

“If you decide to venture outside of the ski area boundary, which is not recommended, you will be encountering many manmade and natural hazards such as ditches, rocks, trees, snowmaking hydrants, construction equipment, and the like,” said Mercer.

With only one run open, he says the slopes will be congested.

“So we’re asking people to really be aware, keep your head up, look around, slow things down, and be courteous to the skiers around you.”

The resort’s COO, Belinda Trembath, says she’s hopeful about opening more runs next week.

“We’ll be able to get more terrain open and move across to Whistler to open the season there and start really celebrating the 60th anniversary,” said Trembath.

She says Whistler Blackcomb will celebrate 60 years in January 2026 with a parade, fire and ice show, and more events throughout the season.

South of Whistler, Cypress and Grouse mountains are expected to open next Friday. Mount Seymour, meanwhile, is expected to open Dec. 12.
