The Indo Daily: Enoch Burke jailed again – Who is funding his crusade?
Mountjoy Prison is expecting a new, yet highly familiar resident.
Having previously spent over 500 days inside the walls of the Dublin jail, controversial and outspoken schoolteacher Enoch Burke is back for a fresh stint – his fourth, to be precise.
As the judge issued yet another ruling against him this week, Burke’s behaviour at the grounds of Wilson’s Hospital School was described in the strongest of terms: “grotesque”, “a baleful and malign presence”, and “an intruder stalking the school”.
It’s beginning to feel like a never-ending story, with the Burke family a recurring fixture in Irish media for the past three years.
What began as a workplace dispute over his objection to transgenderism, has spiralled into an ongoing and costly legal saga, one that has already seen him fined €225,000 for contempt.
So, how might this saga ultimately conclude for one of the country’s most headline-grabbing families?
And who is footing the bill for the Burkes’ evangelical campaign?
On today’s Indo Daily, Shane Phelan, Legal Affairs Editor with the Irish Independent, and Cónal Thomas, Political Correspondent with the Irish Independent, analyse Enoch Burke’s latest legal entanglement, and examine how the Burkes are financing their costly campaigns.
