Hugh Jackman reconsiders Wolverine retirement after box office success
Hugh Jackman has signaled he may not be finished with Wolverine after all, despite repeatedly insisting he had hung up the claws for good.
The 57-year-old actor, who has portrayed the Marvel mutant in ten films since his debut in 2000’s X-Men, revealed on The Graham Norton Show that he is now open to returning to the role following the huge success of Deadpool & Wolverine.
According to Daily Mail, the 2024 blockbuster, which teamed him once again with Ryan Reynolds, became the highest-grossing R-rated film in history, earning an impressive £1 billion worldwide.
“Maybe. I’m never saying ‘never’ ever again,” Jackman said when asked about reprising the character. “I did mean it until the day I changed my mind. I did mean it for quite a few years,” he added, before joking that Marvel now has enough footage from his decade of films to create an AI version of him.
Moreover, Jackman had long maintained that 2017’s Logan—in which Wolverine dies—was his definitive farewell.
However, he returned to the role seven years later, delighting fans and reigniting speculation about future appearances.
During the interview, Jackman also promoted Song Sung Blue, his new film with co-star Kate Hudson, who joined him on the sofa alongside Ben Stiller and Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
Furthermore, the actor praised Hudson’s performance, calling her “extraordinary,” while Hudson revealed her parents, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, were moved to tears by the emotional story, as per the outlet.
Jackman, who recently made his red-carpet debut with girlfriend Sutton Foster, continues to enjoy a busy year both professionally and personally.
His appearance on The Graham Norton Show airs Friday on BBC One and iPlayer.
