Emmerdale unleashes four huge changes in Kev’s chaotic story – here’s what it all means

Emmerdale spoilers follow from the latest episode airing on ITV1 and available to watch on ITVX.
Emmerdale has aired the latest developments in Kev Townsend’s storyline, as the ex-inmate may soon land behind bars again, courtesy of Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle. Tonight’s hour-long episode was pretty eventful for Kev, who decided to get a kick (and some cash) out of an armed robbery.
When his getaway driver bailed on him, Kev devised a plan to get Liam to unwittingly be his accomplice.
At Tracy Robinson’s shop, Kev feigned heart pains to have Liam Cavanagh, who had just walked in, drive him to the hospital. However, the professional robber had a different destination in mind.
He led Liam to the pawn shop he wanted to rob in Hotten. As the unaware GP sat in the car, Kev went inside.

Rushing outside and returning to the car, Kev told a confused Liam: “Whoo! I cannot tell you how much I’ve missed this.”
The doctor was horrified to spot banknotes spilling out of Kev’s bag, who was also hiding a gun in his pocket.
“What have you done?” Liam finally said after putting two and two together. An elated Kev ordered him to “just drive”.
Meanwhile, Kev was driving a wedge between Aaron and Robert. The lovebirds have been on a break, with Aaron insisting he wouldn’t see Robert until he sorted out the situation with Kev, who is still pretending to have a terminal illness.
“He needs to be handled with care,” Robert told Aaron.
As they were at the cafe, Charles Anderson came in, informing Robert that Kev had been missing his rent payments. “He will be good for the money,” Robert promised the vicar as Aaron looked disgruntled.
Charles caught up with Kev and Liam, finding their secretive behaviour odd. The Father was pleased to get his rent money, but was suspicious about how exactly Kev had obtained it.
“I didn’t realise you were working…” Charles began, as Kev said: “It’s just a one-off.”
Alone with Liam, Kev threatened him, advising him against going to the police. Immediately cheerful again, Kev invited Liam to the pub, with the GP going along but pleading with him to get rid of the loot.
Revisiting his old fling with a Leeds barmaid, Kev started sharing details of his one-night stand with Emma, with the encounter resulting in a pregnancy.

While viewers have already connected the dots and guessed that Kev is Lewis Barton’s biological dad, no one in the village is privy to that information, not even Kev.
Nicola King listened attentively as Kev was sharing details about Emma. The robber said his baby mama was a nurse trainee who died when she was pushed off a bridge, leaving little doubt as to her identity.
Nicola and Liam exchanged looks, figuring out the 23-year-old son Kev was talking about was none other than Lewis, Emma Barton’s kid.
“Poor boy, having that man as a a father,” Liam told Nicola later on.
“He can’t know,” Nicola insisted, fearing the revelation of Kev being his dad would take a toll on his mental health.
As if the day couldn’t get any worse for Liam, someone else blackmailed him – Charity Dingle.
As soon as she found out that Kev was the pawn shop robber, Liam vented about having been roped into it.
Desperate for a way to keep Mack away from Ross, Charity resorted to blackmailing Liam. She would tell everything to the police, unless he did her “a little favour”.
“I want you to full throttle on a bromance with Mack,” she said.
As for Kev, it sounded like his days as a free man were numbered.
Aaron spotted his bag at the pub and grew convinced that Robert’s husband must be behind the robbery at the pawn shop.
Still believing Kev was “minted”, Robert dismissed Aaron’s theory.
“Seriously, he’s put all that behind him,” Robert said, assuring Aaron that Kev that he was not a liar.

When Kev offered Robert some money, however, he started doubting his innocence. He went through his bag, finding the stolen goods and money from the shop.
Robert reminded Kev he was still on probation, forcing him to admit he didn’t have any cash from his previous robberies like he had said.
“How I will ever be able to trust you again?” Robert said as Kev doubled down and hinted he could kill Aaron.
Terrified, Robert had to backtrack and promise Kev they would be friends, though he rushed to Aaron to hatch a plan.

Aaron suggested they could tip the police about the robbery so Kev would go straight back to prison.
“If it works… he’s out of our lives forever,” Aaron said as Robert acknowledged that it was their only choice.
“So we start tomorrow,” Aaron concluded.
