Popular light-up holiday train will pass through Metro Detroit in 2025 tour — Here’s when

A popular light-up train will be passing through Metro Detroit during its 2025 tour.

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will begin this tour on Nov. 19 and move through parts of Canada and the United States, according to the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railroad company.

Unfortunately, the train won’t be making any stops in Michigan. However, according to the schedule, it’s expected to pass through Metro Detroit on its journey from Windsor, Ontario, to Illinois from Nov. 22 through Nov. 23.

The closest stop to the Metro Detroit area is at Windsor, Ontario, for an event on Nov. 22, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Smash Mouth and JJ Wilde are expected to perform.

After stopping in Windsor, the train is scheduled to make a stop in Illinois for an event on Nov. 23 between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. CST. Smash Mouth and JJ Wilde are expected to perform.

Since there‘s no event in Metro Detroit, there’s no guarantee the train will be lit up when it passes through. But since the event preceding its arrival ends at 5:30 p.m., it could be dark enough.

Since its first journey in 1999, the train has raised more than $26 million and collected about 5.4 million pounds of food for community food banks in Canada and the U.S., according to CPKC.
